Phyllo Custard Crinkle

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 roll of Phyllo dough (2 rolls of 20 sheets per boxes)
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • Optional: simple syrup glaze: 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water

DIRECTIONS

  1. 1.
    Remove one roll of 20 sheets phyllo dough from freezer and follow package directions to thaw dough – approx 4 hours.
  2. 2.
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  3. 3.
    In oblong pan, scrunch or crinkle Phyllo dough, 2 sheets at a time; bake for 10 minutes.
  4. 4.
    Pour melted butter over phyllo; bake again for 10 minutes.
  5. 5.
    Wisk milk, eggs, sugar and vanilla; pour over Phyllo dough. Bake 30-40 minutes until crispy and golden brown.
  6. 6.
    Make optional simple syrup glaze by heating water and 1/4 cup sugar until sugar is fully dissolved. Cool while Phyllo is baking.
  7. 7.
    Pour or brush glaze onto Phyllo dough.
