INGREDIENTS
- 2 large sweet onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp smoked Paprika
- 2 egg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
DIRECTIONS
- Cut onion into roughly 1/4" rings. Separate onion rings invidually.
- In a small bowl, prepare coating mixture by mixing flour, baking powder, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and Paprika.
- Prepare dipping mixture with buttermilk and egg. Mix well.
- Dip onion rings into dipping mixture (step 3) and generously into coating mixture (Step 2)
- Cook onion rings in a deep fryer. Heat oil to 365 degrees. Cook onion rings for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Place cooked onion rings on papertowels to soak up excess oil.
- Optionally for healthier method, cook onion rings in a air fryer. Preheat air frier to 370 degrees. Cook onion rings for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
