Onion Rings

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 large sweet onion
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp smoked Paprika
  • 2 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

DIRECTIONS

  1. 1.
    Cut onion into roughly 1/4" rings. Separate onion rings invidually.
  2. 2.
    In a small bowl, prepare coating mixture by mixing flour, baking powder, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and Paprika.

    Prepare dipping mixture with buttermilk and egg. Mix well.
  4. 4.
    Dip onion rings into dipping mixture (step 3) and generously into coating mixture (Step 2)
  5. 5.
    Cook onion rings in a deep fryer. Heat oil to 365 degrees. Cook onion rings for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Place cooked onion rings on papertowels to soak up excess oil.
  6. 6.
    Optionally for healthier method, cook onion rings in a air fryer. Preheat air frier to 370 degrees. Cook onion rings for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
